Fury: If Not For Breland's Decision, Wilder Would Have Been Retired!

WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury believes Mark Breland

saved Deontay Wilder's career back in February.

Breland made the decision to throw in the towel as Wilder was being battered in the seventh round of his rematch with Fury at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

After the fight, Wilder was furious with his co-trainer's decision and even threatened to remove him from the corner.

Ultimately Wilder decided to keep Breland, a former fighter himself, in place with the team.

If the fight would have been allowed to continue, Fury feels strongly that he would have seriously punished Wilder to the point of permanent damage.

"Yeah, to be honest with you, the fighters are there to fight, we’re warriors, we fight on until we die, basically. That’s why in boxing there has been a few people die because they are too brave for their own good. But it is up to the corner, that’s what you pay them for, to look out for your interests, what you are too in a rage to see at the time. I believe they left him in too long anyway," Fury told Behind The Gloves.

"I believe that something severely bad would have happened to him if he had been left in because he was going down the same kind of road as these fighters who have had brain damage. He couldn’t protect himself. He didn’t win a round, he didn’t win a second of a round. He was getting badly injured. There was very bad swelling on the top of his head and on the side of his jaw.

"I think that Mark Breland, never mind sack him or slag him, I think they need to give him a pay rise. Because without Mark Breland there wouldn’t have been a third fight, he would’ve been retired from boxing."
